This roster is unbelievable.”

"This event has always been about creating opportunities," said basketball legend, Hall-of-Famer and event co-founder Allen Iverson. "I know what it's like to have to fight for an opportunity. Now, it's an honor for me to be able to open doors and help break down barriers for this next generation."
Top-ranked players including 7’1” sensation, Chet Holmgren, electrifying point guard JD Davison, and the first woman to ever integrate a men's All-American game, Raven Johnson; will battle it out in two exciting nights of elite basketball. Johnson is the 2021 Naismith Girls High School Player of the Year, a special talent who led her team to a staggering 4 state championships. Though other All-American games have featured separate, all-female games, no female player has ever joined the court with the male players.
"Raven is a special talent. She embodies the heart and competitive spirit that this game is built on" stated Iverson Classic Co-Founder Jai Manselle (Twitter.com/JaiManselle) on the industry-first decision.
Johnson won't be the only elite player to only play in one All-American game this year. The other two major All-American games, The McDonald's All-American Game and The Jordan Brand Classic were both canceled over COVID-related restrictions. The Iverson Classic will stand as the only major All-American game played this year. The organizers spent months developing safety protocols and processes to hold the game safely.
"We fought hard to ensure this event could happen and that it could happen safely for these young athletes," said Iverson Classic Co-Founder Bobby "Bo" Bates Jr. about the decision to organize the game this year. "Every single one of them deserved this opportunity and we stepped up to ensure that they got it."
Limited public seating goes on sale today for the 2021 Iverson Classic at IversonClassic.com/2021. Tickets can be purchased for the May 7th and 8th events online. The May 7th Iverson Games is a night of basketball featuring a gauntlet of events that include a dunk content, 3-on-3 game, and more. The All-American game itself will be played on May 8th.
SHOWTIME ® Basketball, home to an unparalleled lineup of basketball content, will serve as a presenting sponsor of the popular high school All-American game. This will mark the second partnership between the two leading basketball brands, following the Iverson Classic: Battle in The Bluff showcase that took place in December 2020. SHOWTIME Basketball will create exclusive content surrounding this year’s Iverson Classic events, including a short-form documentary.

]]>Larry Hughes likes to tell this story.
The story goes, it’s early in the season. Larry’s a rookie. We’re in the players’ parking lot, just one of those days after practice — making moves, you know, talking this that and the third. And then as we’re talking……. we walk up on my Bentley.
A Bentley, it’s nothing to me. You know what I’m saying? It’s just a car. But it’s funny, because it’s not like that for everyone. If you’re AI……. it’s a Bentley. If you’re not? It’s a BENTLEY.
So anyway for Larry, it’s like, O.K. — we’re walking up to a BENTLEY.
And he’s got this look.
I’m saying, Larry is standing there, and he’s in this…… daze. He’s in a Bentley Daze. Just looking at it…. and then looking at me…. and then he’s just, like, “Yo….. AI. I have to get me one of these.”
I don’t even hesitate. “Bro, you can have mine.”
I’ve never seen anyone so grateful.
But then here’s the funny part....Continue Reading On The Players' Tribune
]]>As basketball analysts, scouts and fans all over the world are finally realizing, Kevin Porter Jr is the real deal. Just this month, SLAM called him "a force to be reckoned with," Sports Illustrated noted he's "...gifted with the sort of offensive creativity that can’t be taught" and USC's coach Jason Hart called Porter the "Most talented player we've ever had."
Despite being overlooked by the other two major All American games (McDonald's and Jordan Brand), Kevin Porter Jr was a selection in the Iverson Classic where he not only fit in, but, was able to dominate alongside the most elite players in the country. His performance was so impressive, that he caused not one, but two stunning upsets. First, he defeated odds-on favorite Mac McClung in the Dunk Contest with a (now viral) high flying dunk over Allen Iverson's head. Then, at the awards ceremony, he was awarded Player of the Year, a designation that he shared with Co-Recipient Nassir Little.
Porter has made no secret of his admiration for Allen Iverson, one of his personal heroes. Before the 2018 Iverson Classic game, Porter even braided his signature hair into Iverson-inspired cornrows as a tribute to the man who gave him a shot before the rest of the industry did.
Despite the Iverson Classic being the most watched All American game of the 2018 season (source: SLAM), many hoops fans weren't fully aware of Porter's ability until he hit the NCAA this season.
NBA scouts had been hoping for a surprise prospect to emerge and spice up the 2019 draft. Now, with Kevin Porter's name shooting to as high as top 6 in some scouting reports, Porter is shaping up to be the Trae Young of the 2019 draft.
]]>In just its second year, the Iverson Classic has become one of the premiere high school All-American games in the nation.
Allen Iverson All-Americans consist of top seniors—including Mac McClung, Jahvon Quinerly, Shareef O’Neal and Kevin Porter Jr—and with Allen Iverson mentoring and motivating the players, this event is exactly what high school basketball needs.
Learn what it takes to be an Allen Iverson All-American.
]]>First, let’s get the official notices out of the way. The final score will always read Team Loyalty 148, Team Honor 134. That’s nice and all, but what everyone really wanted to see was which high school stars would show out at the Iverson Classic in suburban Washington, D.C.
The answer, perhaps unsurprisingly, was Mac McClung, by a landslide.
McClung didn’t finish as the game’s leading scorer, but he did chip in an impressive 20 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists, as documented by the Georgetown SB Nation blog Casual Hoya. It was more the way he scored those 20 points that had the crowd — and Iverson himself — on his feet. And no, we’re not talking about an impressive shooting percentage by going 9-for-16 from the field.
]]>Future Maryland guard Aaron Wiggins went head-to-head against some of the nation’s top players in the country and won King of the Court at the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic Thursday.
The 6-foot-6 Wiggins defeated future Ohio State guard Luther Muhammad -- considered one of the best defenders in the 2018 class -- in the final one-on-one battle. Wiggins clinched the win on a long contested fadeaway jumper over his right shoulder. Other participants included Jahvon Quinerly (Villanova), Brandon Slater (Villanova), Kevin Porter (USC), Ja’Vonte Smart (LSU), Elijah Weaver (USC), Luguentz Dort (Arizona State), Ayo Dosunmu (Illinois), Landers Nolley (Virginia Tech) and Courtney Ramey (unsigned).
Wiggins also finished runner-up to Smart in the three-point contest. Porter defeated Georgetown-bound Max McClung in the dunk contest. The event concludes tonight (Saturday) with the Iverson Classic All-American game, which begins at 6:30. A live stream will be available here.
Wiggins is one of four members of the Terps’ seventh-ranked 2018 recruiting class. His one-on-one scoring should help a Maryland team which averaged 0.68 points per possession in end-of-shot-clock situations this past season.
]]>For its second year, the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic is pulling out all the stops with several top high school prospects and a very special pair of the Reebok Answer 4.
Reebok created 42 pairs of the "Roundball" Answer 4 exclusively for the Allen Iverson All Americans. The sneakers use a full-grain leather upper with a black and gold color combination chosen by Iverson himself.
Unlike the traditional Answer 4's leather quarter panel, this exclusive "Roundball" iteration uses mesh for added breathability and weight reduction, which gives the retro model more of a performance edge. Further details include a camouflage patterned liner, binding, and outsole—a nod to A.I.'s general-like leadership at the point guard position—and woven "you were chosen" labels behind the shoe's tongue.
The Iverson Roundball Classic tips off today, April 19 at 6 p.m. ET through Saturday, April 21. Standout names in the event include UCLA commit Shareef O'Neal and Georgetown commit Mac McClung, the latter of whom recently topped Iverson as Virginia's all-time high school scoring leader.
