Allen Iverson Inks Deal with Sling TV for Iverson Classic
Sling TV Will Exclusively Live Broadcast The 2019 Allen Iverson Roundball Classic on April 26th
PHILADELPHIA, PA. Apr. 1, 2019 - NBA Legend and Hall of Famer Allen Iverson and live OTT streaming service pioneer Sling TV unveiled today that the April 26th Allen Iverson Roundball Classic (often called the ‘Iverson Classic’) will stream live exclusively on Sling TV’s service. The event goes into its third year on April 26th after record-breaking viewership of 2018 events and rave reviews
Sling TV was the first multi-channel provider to offer cord cutters an alternate way to watch live TV, on-demand programing, sports and more through connected devices like Apple TV, Roku, smart TVs and mobile devices. Fans who want to watch the Iverson Classic will be able to sign up for a free trial of the Sling TV service at IversonClassic.com/Sling.
“At Sling TV, we continue to push the boundaries of live TV by bringing our viewers new and interesting must-see events,” said Michael Ribero, General Manager of Brand Marketing at Sling TV. “As the exclusive streaming provider of the Iverson Classic, Sling TV is allowing users to watch an exciting event in a way that the next generation of sports fans want to be watching.”
“This is groundbreaking,” said Iverson, who is a co-founder of the event “It's an honor for me. Sling TV is a brand that undeniably understands how to bring live basketball to the fans.” Sling TV also allows viewers to watch ESPNU, ESPNEWS, ESPN3, SEC Network, TNT and NBA TV.
“Sling TV gets it,” added Jai Manselle, a co-founder of the Iverson Classic. “This is about bringing something innovative, disruptive and entertaining to the sports world, and doing it on a platform that truly embodies those attributes.”
The 2019 Iverson Classic will feature two teams comprised of the country’s most talented basketball prospects. Team Loyalty features standouts like Cole Anthony, Nico Mannion, Precious Achiuwa and Jaden McDaniels. While team Honor features 247Sports #1 overall ranked player in the country Anthony Edwards, University of Kentucky commit Kahlil Whitney and Oregon commit CJ Walker.
Following the tradition started at the 2018 Iverson Classic, each team will be co-coached by an NBA legend and a high-profile high school basketball coach. NBA All Star Baron Davis will coach team Honor, while NBA Champion Stephen Jackson will lead team Loyalty.
The Allen Iverson Roundball Classic is one of only a small number of NBA-sanctioned events. The All-American game also features content and support from brands like SLAM Media, Reebok, New Era Caps and Apple’s Beats by Dr Dre.
Iverson Classic events will tip off on Wednesday, April 24th, 2019 with The Iverson Games, a gauntlet of crowd-pleasing events including a Dunk Contest, 3-Point Shootout, 1 on 1 match ups and more, which will be available on-demand on Sling TV. The final event will be the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic All-American Game on Friday, April 26th, which will air live on Sling TV.
About the Allen Iverson Roundball Classic
The Allen Iverson Roundball Classic, the #1 All American game in the country by social viewership, held its first All-American game in 2017 and represents a disruptive, independent new force in the sports world. The AIRC is truly a unique experience. It’s the only grassroots basketball event of its caliber that is run by a Hall of Fame legend who is hands on, engaged and involved directly with the players. These soon-to-be NBA stars actually train and compete under the guidance of Allen Iverson. The week-long event is owned and operated by Iverson Manselle Bates Enterprises, a sports and entertainment company co-owned by Allen Iverson, Jai Manselle and Bobby Bates.
